The best way to shop and visit the market

If you want to visit the bazaar I highly recommend this tour group as your best resource. They will help you understand the history, provide guidance on the purchasing system and show you the market at your leisure. In addition to Khan el-Khalil, they took me to exclusive shops in the city that I would not have been able to find on my own. This group is truly the best around.

We went with Ahmed and Abla Saif. It's important to note your guides' names because they are independent contractors who will want reviews and you may want to request them specifically if you want another tour and enjoyed their company. Abla is very fluent in English and extremely well educated about the history of her city and nation. She is also protective of her clients. Ahmed is her brother so they make a fun and lighthearted team, her teaching and speaking and him navigated the intense traffic of Cairo.

Tour was very informative. We started at 1pm with take-away lunch & brought it to have tea in the market, which was the first place that we didn't hear any honking :) We had tea & lunch in a busy alley with people passing through and trying to sell things, it was still very enjoyable. After, we walked through the market and our guide told us a bit about bartering. For us, the purpose for taking the tour was more about learning, tasting and seeing things in the market and not necessarily buying anything. We also drove to a few other shops, but we were specific about what we did & didn't want to see. (You could probably shop all day if you wanted).

In this tour he took us to variety of different shopping areas, all of the vendors outside of the bazaar were very kind and welcoming; we weren’t pressure to buy anything. The food was good, guide/driver arrived on timed. If your taking a later tour, make sure your prepared for the hustle and bustle of Cairo - it’s busy even at night! Lol.
