Overview

The Step Pyramid and its complex which were built to celebrate King Zoser, the founder of the Third Dynasty (about 2700 BC). It was established by Imhotep, the first architect in the human history. Saqqara is considered the oldest stone building in history. Next, we will visit the amazing tomb of Kagemni (about 2600 B.C.) and the pyramid of Teti in which you can see some wonderful ancient Pyramid Texts.
Memphis or rather the old capital of Egypt and the Red Pyramid in Dahshur which is well known as the “first pyramid”. You will also watch the Great Sphinx and know all relative stories from your informative guide.

What To Expect

Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids

The Pyramid of Djoser (or Djeser and Zoser), or Step Pyramid is an archaeological remain in the Saqqara necropolis, Egypt, northwest of the city of Memphis. The 6-tier, 4-sided structure is the earliest colossal stone building in Egypt.It was built in the 27th century BC during the Third Dynasty for the burial of Pharaoh Djoser by his vizier, Imhotep. The pyramid is the central feature of a vast mortuary complex in an enormous courtyard surrounded by ceremonial structures and decoration.

Pyramids of Dahshour

The first of the Dahshur pyramids was the Bent Pyramid (2613–2589 BC), built under the rule of King Sneferu, the Bent Pyramid was the first attempt at building a smooth sided pyramid, but proved to be an unsuccessful build due to the miscalculations made on the structural weight that was being placed onto the soft ground (sand, gravel, and clay) which had a tendency to subside. Other calculations that were proven to be erroneous were that the blocks being used were cut in such a manner that when placed onto the pyramid their weight was not distributed appropriately, causing the angle of the pyramid to be off and achieving the name “the Bent Pyramid”
Realizing his shortcomings and learning from his mistakes, King Sneferu ordered the building of the second pyramid of Dahshur, the Red Pyramid. Once completed, the pyramid was considered to be a success, as it was a fully constructed, smooth sided, and a free standing pyramid rising to a height of 341 feet (104 meters),

Very interesting visit and our Guide, Nour was very informative and wonderfully easy to travel with. She answered any questions we had and was always asking if we needed anything and sometimes knowing what we needed before asking. We had a great time exploring sakkara, memphis and dashurt. Our tour guide is very knowledgeable and went over all the highlights at each part. Definitely recommend them for anyone visiting Cairo! Even when we are driving they are telling hs about what we are looking at and random facts.

Giza or Dashur? Choose Dashur!

Dashur is AMAZING! Just as good as the great pyramid but less crowded, less vendors, less hassle! Ita almost as big, has more casing in tact, is older and yiu can go inside without an extra ticket. Our operator organized AWESOME guide and driver. Hany was more than a driver, he took care of security and made sure we saw as much as possible while enroute to our destination. Our guide, George, was a legend. He knew so much about Cairo and ancient Egypt. He was informative, kind and really funny. He loves his job and it shows! Both Dashur and Sakkara are must see locations. Memphis was cool too but you could skip it if short on time.
