Walking food trip

Manar was a great guide. We went on a walking tour in Cairo’s downtown area and sampled food popular with the locals: koshari, felafel, shawarma, ice cream and rice pudding (my favorite). Highly recommended!

My wife, son and I had a great experience touring downtown Cairo with Ibrahim. We feasted on typical, delicious Egyptian food and toured very interesting neighborhoods with him. Ibrahim is knowledgeable and personable and very fun to be around. He adjusts the tour to meet interests and food preferences. His love for Cairo and all things Egyptian is infectious. He’s a gifted guide. Highly recommended.
A day eating like the locals

My guide Manar brought me downtown for a walking food tour. It’s best to have a local accompany you so as to have a foil against random people engaging you in conversation. Egyptians are generally warm and friendly but one has to watch out for the occasional scammer wishing to bring you to the pyramids and ride a camel, vendors, beggar kids who will suddenly hug you for alms and vagabonds out for a dole out. That said, Egyptians are truly a warm people and are generally generous in assisting visitors.
Anyway, the food tour. Manar had me try all the common Egyptian foods- koshari, felafel, shawarma, hibiscus juice (nice), ice cream, rice pudding (really nice!). All these I couldn’t have tried on my own as these were really the locals’ daily fare, typically beyond the radar of normal tourists.
Such a lovely lady Manar. She’s very open to questions about Egypt, it’s culture and its people.

The shawarma, the falafel, the koshari, the pastries, the ice cream, the coffee, the hookah! All this and the best company you could ask for. Ibrahim and his driver, Ahmed will navigate the chaotic streets of Cairo/Giza, and full your stomachs will the tastiest food and your heads with the richest knowledge of this amazing city. If you are reading this review, stop debating and start booking. You will not regret it.

I had the pleasure of having Manar guide me around to many different places to eat some wonderful Egyptian food. All the food was fantastic and I felt very safe with Manar guiding me around. Would definitely recommend to anyone new to Egypt looking to experience a bit of local cuisine

Manar is great! She took really good care of us, explained a lot of information and history of Cairo. Nothing was too much for her. The walking food trail and old city tour is a must. The places we ate are very local and tasted delicious. You feel the energy of this city. Highly recommend if your in Cairo.
A tour of of different food establishments in downtown Cairo

Ibo was an outstanding tour guide. Our flight was delayed and we were over two hours late for our scheduled time. Ibo told us no problem, don’t rush, and waited patiently til we arrived.
He then took us to many different eateries, telling us about the history of Egypt and the different buildings we were driving by.
We had a great time listening to his amusing stories and we ended at a dessert shop where we met the owner, who gave us sweatshirts and so many desserts we couldn’t even come close to eating all of it.
Ibo was the best and me my daughter had a great time. Highly recommend

Ibrahim took us to the best, real-deal places for shawarma and koshare, and a real-deal local coffee shop. You learn the culture through food, and this was well worth the time with a friendly, knowledgeable guide.
